Meet Brittney
Author | Speaker | Dreamer

Born in Flint, MI, and raised in Port Huron, MI, Brittney Sherell has arisen from being labeled a ward of the state, to becoming an author and founder of a non-profit to support youth in foster care. Brittney's book "A Suitcase And A Dream" chronicles memorable life experiences from childhood abuse and growing up in the foster care system, through the eyes of a child.

Brittney has now founded the non-profit, also named A Suitcase and a Dream, where her mission is to be an advocate for teens and young adults who have no voice as they are transitioning out of the foster care system by providing assistance as they unpack their old baggage and repack with life skills to help them on their new journey from foster to prosper.

Our Mission

At Suitcase & A Dream our mission is to be advocates for youth transitioning out of the foster care system. We provide essential assistance and empower them with the life skills they need to navigate their journey from foster to prosper. Through our services, we aim to ensure that these young individuals can unpack their baggage and repack their suitcases, equipping them for a successful transition into adulthood.

Our Vision

At Suitcase & A Dream is to create a supportive and nurturing environment for youth transitioning out of foster care. We envision a future where these individuals are empowered with the necessary tools, resources, and opportunities to thrive. By securing identification, offering personal grooming assistance, and providing dream preparation, we strive to make a lasting impact on their lives. We also aim to eliminate the stigma associated with transitioning from foster care by collecting suitcases, writing empowering messages on them, and offering them as beacons of hope. Through our collective efforts, we aspire to reduce incarceration rates, unemployment, and homelessness among these youth, ultimately enabling them to build prosperous futures.
